Anyone who walks the 15 acres of parkland property that surrounds the grand Willistead Manor knows what a special place it is. The history behind Willistead Manor is as beautiful as the property itself. Edward Chandler Walker, the second son of Hiram Walker, who was the founder of the world-famous distillery that bears his name to this day, built the breathtaking building in . Walker had lived in the manor for only nine years when he died in 1915, and six years later, it was deeded to the town of Walkerville for preservation. Now everyone can enjoy the stunning structure through events, tours, and Art in the Park.
Thursday, July 28th – A tour to begin atJackson Park, with its more than 10,000 plants, is undoubtedly one of Windsor’s foremost attractions. Visitors to the Queen Elizabeth II Sunken Garden’s can enjoy the flowers of the season: hundreds of tulips in May, followed by the abundance of summer perennials and lush annuals. The park features some of the most magnificent formal gardens and fountains in Windsor. Your next stop is a visit to the historic Willistead Manor for an outdoor garden tour and patio party with Canada’s best pizza ever!
Friday, July 29th – Each year, thousands of visitors enjoy the brilliant flowers displayed at Coventry Garden, and the patios serve as unique staging areas for concerts and other events during the summer. You will see firsthand the Charlie Brooks Memorial Peace Fountain, the only international floating fountain in the world. It can propel water 70 feet into the air and displays a light show at night. You will then board the bus to visit Willistead Manor, built in 1906, and experience the beauty of this formal gated perennial garden. Then you will feel like you are in heaven when you taste the best pizza you have ever had!
Saturday, July 30th – Ojibway Prairie Complex offers a live exhibit area with Eastern Foxsnake and Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnakes. A wall of windows provides a breathtaking view of the forest and the natural fireplace makes for a warm, cozy atmosphere. Brochures on the birds, mammals, herps, butterflies, trees and wildflowers of Ojibway as well as trail guides, maps and other informative handouts will be available. Designated trails are marked on trailhead signage and are suited for walking, birding, photography, and leisure cycling. Join us for a guided tour followed by a visit to Willistead Manor, Windsor’s historic Paul Martin garden and patio pizza you will never forget!
